March 2020
At the beginning of March, we were looking forward to spring and starting to raise funds to get propane fuel to survivors. While that was going on, we were helping people one at a time, as we could. We were able to pay a survivor’s heating bill so that he could continue to heat his home and keep his family warm, as the nights are still quite cold. We were able to pay the phone bill of a survivor and get a twin mattress for a woman named Bethany, whose daughter needed a bed. We received some donations that will be helpful to survivors as well: camping gear including a tent and sleeping bags, clothing, some camp chairs and some other bedding.
As March wore on, things changed quickly on the ground in the whole country in response to the threat from the Covid-19 pandemic. As people started “panic buying” supplies were short for a while, and some supplies are still difficult to find. We have been focusing on people who are alone or at risk, checking on them and bringing supplies of food, cleaning supplies, and toilet paper, when we can find it.
